The Flight of the Pheonix

The Flight of the Pheonix
The Flight of the Pheonix

Featuring the 'Firebird' based on the legendary story of the Pheonix from the flames, This Pheonix radiates heat and magical orbs and is a painting about power and transformation.

Legend has it that the Pheonix or 'Firebird' rose from the ashes and from that burnt destruction it emerged renewed and regenerated as it sored upwards towards the sky.

Widely regarded as a tale emerging from Greek and Egyptian history the Pheonix started life originally living in paradise where it believed that it was immortal and could never ever die.

Yet after spending a thousand years in paradise the bird grew bored as the desire grew to live a mortal life where life and death could be experienced.

The Pheonix believing that it couldn't actually experience death

still had the urge to experience a renewed life so it built a nest and waited to encounter Ra the Egyptian God.

With the God in sight the Pheonix sang and attracted the attentionof Ra as he drove his magical fiery chariot across the sky.

Ra stopped to listen to the beautiful bird song and in doing so a spark from his flaming wheels fell and landed upon the nest of the Pheonix....

With a blazing nest the stricken bird did indeed die but within three days it emerged reborn from the embers of its nest.

It is said that from that day forward the Pheonix got to die and be reborn again upon each passing of a thousand years, being able to experience renewal and rebirth again and again.

In many cultures including Christianity Chinese and Japenese Mythology and Native American Indian folklore the story of the Pheonix exists.

With slightly varying versions of the tale the theme remains very similar.

It strikes me that a key theme of the story is the belief in the continuing existence of the soul.

It is my belief (and for many like minded people) that upon death the spirit of the soul lives on.

So in death the Pheonix reflects the power of transformation of the soul.

But also that transformative ability in life...

We're all familiar with sayings like 'Its when we hit rock bottom that its time to start again' and to rise like a Pheonix from the flames.

Life isn't always as simplistic as that is it, sometimes it's more of a slow climb than a whooshing rise but with hope new beginnings can be achievable and very powerful.

Change doesn't have to be massive, small changes in life, our attitudes, a bit of good luck and with the grasping of arising opportunities many of us can grow and make the changes we need.

We may have chapters in life when we marvel at our own sense of power and autonomy and then others where we let things crash and burn.

We can't always control what life throws at us, but maybe with a bit of the power of the pheonix   there is hope.

Wishing you a powerful and transformative day....
