IN THE SPIRITUAL SPOTLIGHT with Jo O'Meara

When I asked Jo if she’d be this month’s Spiritual Spotlight, her response was beautifully humble:

“I don’t really think of myself as spiritual.”

And yet, Jo’s journey tells a different story—one of strength, compassion, resilience, and heart.

Jo first rose to fame in the late ’90s as the powerhouse voice behind S Club, becoming part of a band that not only topped charts but defined a generation. With platinum albums, global tours, a hit TV show, and the iconic anthem “Don’t Stop Movin’”, Jo’s voice has been the soundtrack to many lives.

But beyond the spotlight, Jo is someone who leads with kindness and authenticity. She has faced life’s challenges with honesty and grace, using her platform to raise awareness around issues close to her heart, including animal welfare and mental health.

Spirituality isn’t always found in crystals, rituals or meditation. Sometimes, it’s in the quiet strength of a person who continues to show up for others, who brings light through music, who speaks truth even when it’s hard.

Jo reminds us that you don’t need to call yourself spiritual to be living a deeply soul-led life. She is spiritual—because she lives with love, purpose, and care.

Q1 TJ : On a scale of 1-10, (1 being the lowest, 10 being the highest) how spiritual do you think you are. Please talk about anything spiritual you regularly do (visiting mediums, chakra readings, a love of crystals etc)

Jo: I’ve never really seen myself as a massively spiritual person , I believe in things greater than us and always feel a white feather is my Grandad visiting me if that is considered spiritual??

Q2 TJ: Re-occurring angel numbers, pennies, falling feathers, Robins - Are they are sign from above or a pure coincidence.

Jo: I think it is down to the individual and what gives them comfort , as I said in my last answer I signify feathers to be my Grandad visiting , it gives me a sense of comfort

Q3 TJ: Have you ever experienced a spiritual presence, connection or encounter that cannot be explained.

Jo: I personally haven’t , but I don’t doubt things , I think there is a whole other part of the universe that is much more than we know about.

Q4 TJ: What is your favourite colour that you are most drawn to.

Jo: I like the colour green , I’m often drawn to that colour ! I have a love for trees 🌲

TJ Says: Jo’s draw to the colour green and her deep love for trees reflect a beautifully grounded and heart-led soul.

🌿 Green is the colour of the heart chakra — the centre of love, compassion, and healing. It often shows up for people who are natural nurturers, emotionally intuitive, and deeply connected to nature’s rhythms. Jo being drawn to green suggests she has a calming presence, an open heart, and a quiet strength that holds space for others.

🌳 Her love of trees points to a grounded spirit with strong roots and wisdom beyond words. Trees teach us patience, resilience, and the beauty of growth in all seasons — qualities Jo clearly embodies. Spiritually, trees represent connection between heaven and earth — a soul that walks with both feet on the ground but remains open to something higher.

Together, these loves suggest Jo has an earthy spirituality — one that may not label itself as “spiritual,” but is deeply in tune with life, love, and the natural world.

It’s a gentle reminder that spirituality doesn’t always need to be loud — sometimes, it lives in the quiet appreciation of a forest breeze or the pull towards a healing colour.

Q5 TJ What’s your go-to, feel-good ritual when you're in need of a pick-me-up? Is it dancing, meditating, or maybe binge-watching a favourite show?

Jo: I love music , so I defo will put some uplifting music on to feel good !!

Q6 TJ: If you had to choose a spirit animal that embodies your journey in life so far, what would you choose and why.

Jo: I would probably say a hamster ha ha I’ve been spinning on the hamster  wheel all my life , but always manage to smile even when things have got tough !

TJ Says: When Jo says she’d be a hamster, she might be joking — but there’s often deeper truth in the animals we instinctively relate to. Spiritually, the hamster symbolises adaptability, nurturing energy, and inner resourcefulness.

Hamsters are small but mighty. They create safe, cosy spaces, carefully gather what they need, and are known for being both observant and quietly determined. Spiritually, this suggests Jo has an inner world that is rich, thoughtful, and deeply self-reliant — someone who quietly prepares, protects her energy, and values her own safe space.

It also speaks to someone who may seem light-hearted or gentle on the outside, but holds deep emotional intelligence and a strong instinct for what’s right for them — someone who knows when to retreat, when to rest, and when to move forward with purpose.

Jo’s spiritual hamster energy reminds us that power doesn’t have to roar — sometimes it squeaks softly while getting the job done with heart, humour, and care.

Q7 TJ: Where in the world have you have felt most connected to yourself - Perhaps a spiritual moment that changed your life happened there or a place you feel like your soul belongs?

Jo: I definitely feel the most connected t myself when I’m on stage ! It’s my comfort zone and where I am the most content.

Q8 TJ:Do you have any quirky spiritual superstitions or habits—like carrying a lucky charm or doing a specific dance / song etc that gets you through life?

Jo: I don’t walk on 3 drains or under ladders and I always salute the magpie!

Q9 TJ: What’s the one book, movie, TV show or song that made a lasting impact to your life and the way you live it.

Jo: Anything from the carpenters , it is what made me choose to sing and follow my dreams of being on stage! Her voice, Karen Carpenter, made a lasting impact on me and still does to this day.

Q10 TJ: What piece of advice or knowledge would you give to your younger self.

Jo: Don’t be so hard on yourself and Just go for it!
